Build an experience template

Updated Nov 8, 2026 Based on Salesforce docs updated 2026-08-27

An experience template is the structural layout — a hero banner, a product carousel — that personalized content renders into. It turns raw recommender or decision data into named variables your site or app displays, without hard-coding that logic into your sitemap or SDK.

Create the template

  1. In the Personalization app, open Experience Templates and click New.

  2. Select the data space, set the channel to Web, enter a template name and API name, then continue.

  3. Choose the sites the template applies to, then continue.

  4. Pick a template type, then a creation method: Global template to start from a preconfigured layout (for example, a hero banner), or Start from scratch for a blank page.

  5. Select the Personalization Response Template that defines your data fields.

  6. Define or review the template’s variables, mapping each one’s default value to a response-template attribute.

  7. Customize the template code, inserting variables where you need dynamic content, then validate and save.
