Test the Ingestion API with Postman

Updated Nov 8, 2026 Based on Salesforce developer docs and Postman documentation retrieved 2026-11-08

Before wiring the Ingestion API into your backend, send a test request from Postman (or any REST client) so you can confirm your token and payload work. This catches auth and schema mistakes early, without writing a line of production code.

Get a test token

  1. Import or create a Postman collection and add instance_url and access_token as collection variables.
  2. Follow the connected app and authentication page to run the two-hop OAuth exchange.
  3. Paste the resulting Data Cloud access token into the access_token variable.
  4. Paste your org’s Data Cloud instance_url into the matching variable.

Send a test event

  1. Download the ready-made Postman collection below and import it.
  2. Set the connector_name and object variables to match the schema you defined for your connector.
  3. Send the sample ingest request using your test token and variables.
  4. Confirm a success response, then check the record lands in the connector’s data stream.

Illustrative curl-equivalent — not a verified Salesforce example:

ingest-test.sh
curl -X POST "$INSTANCE_URL/api/v1/ingest/sources/$CONNECTOR_NAME/$OBJECT" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $ACCESS_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
  "data": [
    { "id": "test-001", "timestamp": "2026-11-08T00:00:00Z" }
  ]
}'
