Set up a Trailhead or Developer org

Updated Nov 7, 2026 Based on Salesforce docs updated 2026-08-27

A Trailhead account gives you a free Salesforce org to practice in, so you can follow the rest of this guide without risking a production environment. This page covers creating that account and reaching Setup inside your org.

Create your Trailhead account

  1. Go to trailhead.salesforce.com and select Sign Up.
  2. Enter your email address (or continue with Google/Apple) and choose a username and password.
  3. Check your inbox and verify your email address to activate the account.
  4. Log in at trailhead.salesforce.com with your new credentials.

Get a practice org

  1. From your Trailhead profile, open or launch a Trailhead Playground — a free, ready-made practice org tied to your Trailhead account.
  2. If you need a standalone org instead (not tied to a Playground), use the separate Developer Edition signup form and verify that email too.
  3. Open the org from Trailhead (or your Developer Edition welcome email) and confirm you can reach Setup — the gear icon in the top toolbar.
