Understand data spaces and the object prefix

Updated Nov 7, 2026 Based on web research dated 2026-11-07

A data space is how Data Cloud keeps data separated inside one org — for example by brand, business unit, or region. Every object you create (data streams, DMOs, segments) belongs to one data space, so pick your data space plan before you connect a single data source.

Decide and set up your data space

  1. List the brands, business units, or environments that need their data kept apart; each becomes its own data space (most orgs start with just the Default one).
  2. From Setup, open Data Cloud Setup and go to the data spaces list.
  3. Create a data space and give it a short, clear developer name — this name is what you will see on every object built inside it.
  4. Confirm which data space is active before you connect a data source or build a DMO, segment, or Calculated Insight, since that object stays tied to the data space it was created in.
