Build segments for personalization
A segment is a named group of individuals in Data 360, built from attributes, behavior, or calculated insights, including the ones you added to the data graph. Personalization reads segments two ways: a targeting rule checks eligibility in real time, and batch personalization runs on a schedule. This page builds a real-time segment and shows how both use it.
Create a real-time segment
- In Data 360, open the Segments tab and click New.
- Select Create with Visual Builder, then choose Real-Time Segment.
- Select the data space and the real-time data graph the segment is based on.
- Give the segment a unique, easily identifiable name.
- Choose the data graph fields that filter segment membership.
- Set the time period the real-time segment evaluates.
- Save the segment.
Or build a standard segment
Segments that don’t need real-time evaluation — product or color affinity, for example — can be standard (batch) segments instead.
Put the segment to work
- 1 Segment Built in Data 360 on your data graph
- 2 Targeting rule or batch personalization References the segment for eligibility or scheduled decisions
- 3 Personalized experience Served to the individuals who match
A targeting rule can use segment membership — alongside attributes, related attributes, and calculated insights — to decide who’s eligible for a decision on a personalization point. Batch personalization instead runs on the segment’s publish schedule and writes a decision for every current member.
